JANICE FROM GERMANY

Helping and working along Herman was a very enjoyable experience. I stayed and worked for 6 weeks in a Monastery in Karatu, teaching English, helping the nuns with small projects like translating a webpage and worked on a solar-power-project. The schedule was flexible and quite self-paced. The accommodation was spacious and comfortable and the food plentiful! I also taught English in the nearby Secondary School which I really enjoyed.

You need to be self motivated though since some of the organisational structures are quite loose and confusing.

I really enjoyed the exchange with Herman and his openess and interest as well as his helpful attitude to accommodate volunteers.
Thank you!

Herman’s Reply to Janice:

I was so happy to stay with Janice and She worked also in the Congregation of Daughters of Mary who have a secondary school in Karatu coffee farms. I told Janice to be Flexible always because we needed here expertise in different areas. Sometimes, we were changing here timetable because we need here in other activities, and she was flexible with her whole heart because we had no option, it confuses but she was only having 5 weeks to stay with Us and we gave her more than 5 jobs at once and she managed to be flexible and she worked like a machine.

Her departure were left us a big gap, she departed while we still need her expertise here, I, Herman Longo was relaxing when Janice was around with me, because I knew Janice could do better than me and she did, She is the volunteer who is still needed in our organization even today. May be one day she will be back here to do the same. She is the great thinker.
