CSO BEST AWARD WINNERS 2009

In attempt to obtain winners for the Tanzania CSO Excellence award for 2009, a panel of judges was appointed by the Foundation for civil Society to review the best 10 out of 400 performing CSOs for 2009. The panel has already completed its works and submitted a list of winners to Foundation for Civil society. The decisions of the judges was reached after a careful considering a number of assessment criteria which guided the process of selecting the best performing CSOs.Some of the criteria used in selecting the best winners include but not limited to the following.

Impact of the programme to the communities’ innovations Transparency and accountability potential for sustainability involvement of the beneficiaries etc.Gender responsiveness etc. The award was contested on different thematic areas such as governance,advocacy,networking,influencing policy change, and improving social safetynet structures andprocesses . it was a long but interesting experience where judges had a hard time in selecting top ten performers and therefore,ultimately the four first winners.

In considering the above assessment criteria the UDF was selected as a top among  ten performers, with unique features as based for the selection.

Unity in Diversity Foundation was a first winner on POLICY MAKING in Tanzania mainland and Island also in Southern highland Zone UDF was the first Organization and we were awarded a very nice gift which we are still having here in our office.

Unity in Diversity foundation , demonstrated inputs of community and felt needs in the water project. The organization has successfully managed to mobilize community to engage in water development project.The organization has managed to create tangible impact of water projects on the community life.The organization enjoys strong support from the government side sustainability of the project due to community ownership and readingness to contribute their resources for water project.
